COVID-19 Update
        March 2020

In March 2020 the dental team was the last team out of Honduras as COVID-19 hit.  All missions have been
suspended until such time as we can be assured of the safety of both our volunteers and patients.  Please
check back for information on future missions.  We eagerly look forward to returning to Honduras!  For now, we are
not idle.  We have temporarily shifted our focus to food, shelter, emergency dental and medical assistance for the
people in Sula and he surrounding communities.

Another successful dental mission! In March we were joined by Dr Forrest Bowen and his daughter Elizabeth.  Dr Bowen, with his calm and gentle nature, was especially good with our young  patients in the clinic and at the schools.  Elizabeth worked tirelessly and jumped right in, always willing to do anything asked of her!   Dr Oscar was also with us for the week and we appreciate his dedication year after year.  Big news! Maritza Urbina, who has been volunteering with us for several years, is now Dr. Maritza.  We congratulate her and are so happy to have her working with us during our mission weeks. We added another school to our school outreach program, increasing the number of children we are educating on the importance of good dental hygiene and, protecting with fluoride.  With the help of donations from individuals and the Henry Schein  Foundation we were able to supply every patient with a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss.  More details and photos coming soon.
March 2019
The Spring 2019 mission was a huge success.  We treated over 200 patients in the clinic and applied  fluoride treatments to almost 250  school children through our school outreach.  It is exciting to see that outreach grow as we add a grade level each time we go.   It is our hope that educating the students about the importance of dental hygiene will lead to life long habits for them and improve their overall health.
This year we also had some children from an orphanage come to the clinic for the first time and it was very rewarding to be able to give them the care they needed.  This trip one of our interpreters Jorge got his new teeth and you can see how happy he is in the pictures.  We also
were able to use our own equipment for sterilization this trip, almost exclusively, reducing our dependence on the hospital's central sterile.
